WHY TEAT HEALTH IS IMPORTANT
The teat canal is the primary physical and chemical barrier to invasion of mastitis pathogens into the udder. Between milkings, the smooth muscles surrounding the teat duct should be contracted and the teat canal tightly closed to impede bacterial passage from the teat orifice into the interior of the gland. Changes in teat tissue by milking, teat canal integrity, and teat tissue pliability may favour penetration of bacteria into the udder. A teat-end in good condition is an important resistance factor to bacterial colonization of the mammary gland.
WHY HYBRID INFLATIONS IMPROVE TEAT HEALTH
The soft silicon is gentle on the teats and comfortable for the cow. The round inflation end mounts easily and securely onto the teat, and in operation it's ability to move milk away from the teat quickly minimises the amount of blockages, which in turn leads to less likelihood of pathogens making their way into the teat.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
They don’t look very strong, are they going to last in my shed?
You can beat these against 2inch pipe and you’ll barely mark them, although we do have some that have been caught in the bridge on rotary sheds!
Will these fit my shed?
They fit most sheds but let us know what type plant you have and we’ll let you know if they are suitable. We’ve found one type of knob on a jetta that’s too tight for them.
How often do we have to change these?
Standard inflations are 2500 milking but Hybrids will last 13000 milking - 5x longer! It also means that you have to change inflations 5 less . And, even then, you just take the Hybrid off the cluster and put a new one on...a one person job!
These are really light; will they actually milk the cows out properly?
Independent milking specialists tell us that the reduction in weight milks the cow better, as it’s the action not the weight that milks the cow. After seeing the results in dozens of shed we have to agree.
Will these hang down to cut the air off like my old ones do?
Being ¼ of the weight they won’t hang down as well however farmers who have used them say that after a few days they realised that they were putting the cups on quicker; so minimal air loss. Farmers say that it’s less air loss than a slipping cup.
Why is there a hole at the base of the Hybrid?
There’s been a lot of R&D into getting that hole in the right place; it’s as close to the end of the teat as possible. It allows for milk to get away from the teat as quickly as possible therefore reducing teat damage.
Will these improve my SCC and teat health?
Nearly all the farmers say that the Hybrids have improved teat health and therefore have reduced the SCC. One of our first clients stated that he didn’t think we could reduce his already low SCC (82000) but after 6 milkings it was down to 62000!
How do the cows react to the Hybrids?
We dropped off one set of Hybrids to a farmer with 900 heifers; before we had got home he had rung to order a shed load. He told us that it was the only set of cups that stayed on the heifers. His conclusion was that the others were too heavy and there was no comfort for the heifers and they could easily kick them off. It reduced milking by an hour in the spring; therefore saving 2 hours a day!
TESTIMONIALS
What our customers are saying
-
NO SORE ARMS!
“I absolutely love them, no sore arms, they are quick and easy to put on and the cows love them. I never want to milk with the old ones again!. The cows settled within a week and they are flowing like it’s after Christmas. There are hardly any shits in the shed which is nice especially in the spring!”

THE BEST I'VE USED IN 60 YEARS
“Without a doubt these Hybrids are the best cups I have ever used and I’ve been milking for 60 years. The cows that were always in the last row are now spread throughout the herd and those cows that assisted you in taking the cups off (kickers) no long do. The cows that I always lent on to get that last little bit out of, milk out cleanly, so after 60 years of leaning on cows you’ve broken me of the habit”

WE'RE ON OUR SECOND LOT
“Normally I’d get most of the way through milking and my back and shoulders were sore, so I’d find something very important to do; out of the shed. With the Hybrids I got right to the end of milking and then realised that I wasn’t sore. An embarrassing comment from the staff was..It’s the first time you’ve stayed in the shed right right though for a long time. We're now on our second lot of Hybrids.”

MILKING IS SO MUCH MORE ENJOYABLE!
“We only milk once a day and our cows come in very tight. The old cups used to slip and we had bits of wire holding the hoses up everywhere. Changing to the Hybrids has meant there’s no need for any bits of wire and there’s minimal cup slip. Milking is so much more enjoyable now, as much as it can be enjoyable. Now you’ve cured the cup slip can you work on the payout!?”

ABOUT US
We're Rob and Sharon Bradley and our company 7 Mile Farm is the sole importer and distributor for Hybrid Inflations in New Zealand.
We have 30 years experience milking cows; coming through the share-milking system, owning our own cows and finally our own farm. We milked every day, achieving 650kg per cow. With this background and 25 years experience in the AI industry, we have always interested in ways to improve our herd, our farm and bottom line, not to mention looking for a better if not easier way to milk cows. After all, cow and staff comfort is always paramount, as happy cows make happy staff!
One of the worst jobs in a dairy shed is changing the inflations and with this product there is one less hassle. And they make the breaking in of heifers considerably easier. Seldom do you find something that will fit most sheds and adapt to most sheds.
While in the states we met the designer, manufacturer and owner of the 'Hybrids', Reed Larsen. Reed's family business made 87% of the American inflation market. He always thought there must be something more comfortable for the cow. Reed looked at the whole set of cups from the point of view of the cow, including weight, where the air-hole is positioned and how to make the inflation last longer and came up with the 'Hybrid' We believe one of the best new inventions on the market today!
